Breakfast and After School Club

Where does it take place?

The after school club uses our Tree House. We have daily use of the Tree House purpose built kitchen and spacious communal area. We also use the school’s Forest school, sports hall, playground, and ICT suite.

What does after school club provide?

Children meet in the ICT suite straight after school and then move to the Tree House for a drink of milk or water at 4:00pm. A choice of activities, such as den building, film night, construction competitions, obstacle course, is provided until 4:45pm when the children sit down for tea together. After tea children have quieter activities until the end of the provision at 6:00pm. Play leaders also organise special half termly activity evenings with details advertised in advance.

What can my child have to eat and drink?

Starting in January 2017, we provide a full home cooked hot meal every day. The meal is served in the same way as our school shared lunches with adults and children sitting together around a table to share the food.

What if my child needs additional support ?

We welcome all children at Countess Wear school into our after school club but we recognise that that some children will need additional adult support to be able to access the provision. This may include help for self- care or to maintain the appropriate behaviour and keep themselves, or other people, safe. We will discuss with you the before your child starts , the support we can offer based on our knowledge of your child’s needs, and any additional costs this may mean for you.

Behaviour

We aim to make our after school club a safe and happy place for all children who attend. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed but we do expect children to be respectful, keep themselves and other people safe, and follow the instructions given to them by the play leaders. If your child is struggling to follow these behaviour guidelines we will ask to speak with you to discuss the situation and agree a way forward. If the situation cannot be resolved successfully we may not be able to keep offering after school club for your child.

How do I register my child for after school club?

Parents who want to use the after school club either on a regular or occasional basis will need to fill in a registration form for each of their children. We can only take children of reception age or above to comply with government regulations.

How do I book sessions?

Currently our after school club has a daily capacity of 16 children. Bookings must be made online for the following week by 3.30pm on the previous Thursday. Please phone the school and we will see if we can safely accommodate your child for that day. You will be expected to pay for the session as you collect your child or by the end of the week at the latest.

When and where does it take place?

The breakfast club uses our Community room situated inside the school entrance hall. It starts at 8.00 a.m and continues until 8.45 when the children join their classes for the start of the school day. Parents are asked to hand their children directly to the breakfast club staff in community room at the start of breakfast club . They should then leave promptly as for safeguarding reasons, leaders cannot have additional adults in the room.

At the end of the session younger children are taken to class and handed over to their class staff in person. Older children can make their own way though the school to class.

Breakfast club provides a calm, friendly start to the school day for the children. Children can choose from a selection of cereals, toast and fresh fruit, and can have a hot or cold drink. As children finish their breakfast, staff provide a range of quiet calming activities that enable children to talk with friends and gradually get ready for the school day.
