Year 2

YEAR 2

SPRING TERM 1, 2019

This Half Term our topic will be ‘Food, Glorious, Food.’ We have such an exciting topic planned on the enquiry question ‘Why does it matter where are food comes from?’

We will be beginning our topic using our key text, ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory’ to inspire our learning. During our chocolate time we will be writing some fantastic fiction stories.

Our second book for the term will be ‘The disgusting sandwich’ by Gareth Edwards and we will be writing about our own disgusting food.

In science we will be looking at how to grow our own salad by finding out about what plants need to survive. In art we will be making pinch pot vases.

HOOK DAY

We received an exciting letter from Mr Willy Wonka. He asked us to design and make our own chocolate bars. We had to choose between milk, dark and white chocolate and which delicious and imaginative toppings we could add to our chocolate bars.

HOME LEARNING

Remember that home learning is due in each week on a Wednesday. We ask that you complete the weekly spelling activity on wand and that children read 3 times per week at home. Please sign your child's bookmark so they can move up on rocket reading chart.

READING

Reading is a skill that helps children with many aspects of learning.
Do try and read with your child 3 times a week to keep up the practising to help them progress. Remember to ask your children questions throughout the stories-  Please record any reading on their reading bookmarks.
If you have any questions please see us.
Reminders:
  • When reading pink to orange books- read a book 2 or 3 times so that your child becomes confident with the text. Then you can be asking more questions about what they have read.
  • Encourage them to sound out a word using their phonics, 'sound it out'.
  • If a word is tricky, discuss how it is tricky and that we need to remember that word eg come, my, said.
  • Ask your children questions about facts from the book eg where, when, who, what, why and how? And ask your child questions wondering...do you think...How do they feel etc.

PE

PE kits are needed for Year 2 on a Thursday.
