Talkworks

A message from Talkworks -

We hope you are keeping safe in these exceptional circumstances. TALKWORKS throughout Devon has noticed a significant drop in people entering our service, so we wanted to spread the word that we are very much still running, and to remind people we are here for the people of Devon.

The COVID19 Pandemic is undoubtedly going to cause widespread challenges with our county’s mental health and wellbeing – arising from the effects of isolation, loss of jobs, grief and trauma responses, as well as aggravating other existing mental health difficulties. Mental health services will play a vital role in the recovery phase, and we are already gearing up for our workforce to be proactively adapting to this.

We are still accepting self-referrals, and referrals from professionals. In order to keep staff and patients safe, we are not currently running groups or face to face appointments. All of our initial assessments are being conducted over the telephone, but we are now set up to also deliver therapy via webcam if that is someone’s preference. This is an effective way to deliver therapy for a range of difficulties. There is currently less than a 2 week wait across Devon for an assessment.

The easiest way to refer yourself is to use the short form on our website, and a member of our admin team will then be in touch to arrange the assessment. Our telephone number is still in use, but as our admin teams are working from home you will be taken straight to a voicemail. You can leave a voicemail and someone will call you back, but this isn’t always someone’s first choice if they feel a bit anxious already!.

We are also offering a bespoke service for NHS and social care staff (soon to be extended to the police), offering a priority appointment with some of the most experienced staff members across the trust, and offering a range of different types of support, with the option of being fast-tracked into the main service if that is required.

Just a reminder – we are not a urgent or crisis service, and our usual inclusion/exclusion criteria applies – if you are a potential referrer please get in touch and we can send out a copy of this.

Please spread the word to your colleagues, family, friends, and don’t forget yourselves too! If you have any questions, or would like to discuss anything more with a member of the team, please do not hesitate to get in touch by calling or responding to this email. I have also attached a leaflet for further information.

Warm regards,
