Nursery Provision

The Nursery children are divided into two bases. We have two bases within the nursery One base, "Cuckoos" is for 2 -3year olds. The term after their 3rd birthday, the children move through to a larger group and are called Wagtails.

During their ‘learning time’, the children have access to these rooms and spaces as well as a large outdoor area. In addition to this they are encouraged to play and explore creatively throughout the whole Early Years area outside.

One of the bonuses of being based within a school is that all the Early Years children also have access to the wider school resources, including:

  • A Forest School.
  • The School hall, with P.E. equipment and a large space for music, movement and games and opportunity to eat lunch with the rest of the school.
  • A kitchen, to facilitate cookery sessions.
  • A large playground with extensive play equipment.
  • A large playing field with a school pond.

New Parents and Children

The closing dates for applications are as follows:

  • By the end of May for a September start
  • By the end of October for a January start
  • By the end of February for an April start

Once this application has been processed the School Administrator will contact you, informing you whether you application has been successful or not. (Applications are allocated according to the schools nursery admission policy, a copy of which is available at school).

Prior to your child starting in the nursery, we will arrange a home visit. The home visit is intended to give you and your child the opportunity to meet the Early Years staff and to develop a link between home and school that will benefit your child’s transition process. You will also be invited for taster sessions so that you and your child will know what to expect.

If your application is not successful then you will be informed in writing and you can request to be placed on the waiting list should any vacancies arise. Please note that any places allocated from our waiting list are also subject to the schools nursery admission policy.

Parental Involvement

At Countess Wear Community School, we place high regard upon parental involvement. We believe that parents and carers are the most important people in the lives of the children and that the closer our links are with them, the more effective their children’s learning becomes. Each morning, parents are encouraged to stay with their children for the first 15 minutes of a session, to help them settle and to support them to engage with the activities available. We hold regular ‘Foundation Fun’ sessions where parents are carers are invited to come in and share in their child’s learning alongside them, in addition to termly ‘Parent Consultations’.

Our Nursery has a role play area linked to Percy the Park Keeper and his woodland animals.

Forest School

We are very fortunate to have access to our fabulous Forest School. The Nursery children mostly visit the Forest every Wednesday and Friday morning. Two year olds will visit the Forest regularly to ensure all part-time children are able to share in the experience of this exciting environment.

To ensure that all children get the maximum time in the Forest, we would really appreciate your help in supporting your child to get changed into their Forest School clothes once they arrive. We provide all children with a waterproof coat and trousers. Please supply your child with a named pair of wellington boots, to be kept in school if possible.

In colder weather please make sure your child has plenty of layers to wear under their waterproofs, a named warm hat and gloves as well as a thicker coat. Thank you!

What to bring...

Please remember to bring a named water bottle with water inside every day! Depending on the weather please remember to bring suitable clothing for your child, for example a named coat, named sunhat, named jumper etc..

Also please make sure your child has a bag with a change of clothes and named wellies for when we explore outside. In the colder weather please also consider giving your child an extra layer or two of clothing and named gloves!

Thank you!
