Hearing Support Centre

At Countess Wear Community School we are proud to host a 6-8 place Hearing Support Centre funded by the Local Authority.

Children who attend the centre have an EHCP with a  hearing impairment as their primary need.  Children are fully included in our school accessing mainstream class with support from a qualified teacher of the deaf.

Where appropriate, children follow a highly differentiated and individualised curriculum for literacy and numeracy delivered within a total communication environment by the specialist teacher.  Additional curriculum support is offered specifically designed to meet the children’s learning needs.

We have support from a wide range of specialist advisory teachers for children with hearing impairments.

As a fully inclusive school, our assemblies are signed and all members of our staff have attended deaf awareness training.
